Don Billings Memorial Irrigation Leadership Scholarship Recipient

Jorge Rios, Jr., a native of Burley, Idaho, is a 2009 Burley High School graduate. During his high school years, he helped with various FFA projects and activities. He was selected as a Natural Helper, a recipient of the Mr. Burley High School, and player of the school’s soccer and track team. In addition to tutoring his high school peers in math, Jorge, Jr. continued to offer his tutoring services in college. He attended Treasure Valley Community College, and will continue his education at the University of Idaho in the fall of 2011, majoring in electrical computer engineering. While attending college, he played on the soccer team and was a member of the Phi Theta Kappa Honor Society. As a result of his high academic standing, he received the All-Academic Award for the Northwest Athletic Association of Community Colleges. By exemplifying academic citizenship through leadership and achievement, he was the only athlete on campus selected to receive the Academic Leadership Award. Upon graduating from college, Jorge Jr. plans to apply his electrical knowledge to continue building a strong foundation and background in the irrigation industry through his father’s family-owned irrigation business.
