Leah Meeks is currently a graduate research assistant at the University of Florida in the Agricultural Engineering department. Her research is focused on evaluating rain sensors to reduce residential irrigation. She will graduate with a Master’s of Engineering degree in the summer of 2010. This fall Leah is starting a doctorate program at Utah State University in Irrigation Engineering. Meeks is a graduate from California Polytechnic State University, San Luis Obispo’s BioResource and Agricultural Engineering Department with an irrigation emphasis where she was recognized as the Outstanding Senior for Service to the Community in the College of Agriculture and one of five Outstanding Women in Engineering for the class of 2008. Meeks received her engineer-in-training certificate in 2008. She will work in industry after receiving her doctorate degree and obtain her professional engineering license. After gaining industry experience, Meeks plans on returning to academia to teach undergraduate irrigation engineering.
